A Weekend in Austin & Criquet Shirts

Leisha just introduced me to Criquet shirts which I love. A little trendy and thin for Mark's style, but I can see some cute gents rocking them. Anywho, a blog that I follow out of Athens, GA (Bulldog land) sent me the below post today which I thought was right on, enjoy!

FRIDAY
Get here early and head straight to Franklin's BBQ - this place has blown up since Bon Appétit voted it the best BBQ in the country. There are lines every day but the wait is worth it. Insider tip: hire someone on craigslist to wait in line for you.

Stay at the San Jose Hotel. It's an ideal boutique hotel with the perfect patio for early evening cocktails, clean modern (albeit minimal) design, and the occasional celeb spotting.
Have dinner at Elizabeth Street Cafe, a French Vietnamese restaurant walking distance to the San Jose. After dinner, head down to Rainey Street. It's a new bar area that specializes in outdoor drinking. Bangers has over 50 Texas micro-brews on tap and too much pork for just one fork.
After Bangers, head across the street to Bar Illegal to digest with some mescal. This stone hut is over 100 years old and looks like a Josey Wales haunt. Plus, Billy from Criquet Shirts, guest bar-tends there. Tell him you're a fan of the shirts and he may give you a free shot.
Post mescal and beer, head back to Homeslice for a late evening slice.
SATURDAY
Start off at Joe's for coffee then recharge your batteries at the Barton Springs Pool. Definitely recommend bringing your suit to Austin during most months. It's got a European bath house flavor to it, in a good way.


Have lunch at Taco Deli. Meat, queso and tacos are Austin's culinary trinity. These tacos are the town's best and made with local or organic ingredients.

For dinner, get as fancy as Austin gets at Uchiko. It's Paul Qui's place, the chef now better known as the Top Chef winner. He's got his own spot in the works. Reservations are a must.

Post Uchiko, go old school at the Broken Spoke. Get your honky tonk on at this cheap beer & two-stepping institution. Leave the Rainbow Sandals at home.

For a deeper dive into the music scene, head east to The Longbranch Inn or The White Horse, both have live tunes and two of the best jukeboxes in town.

Shut it down at the Continental Club, one of Austin's most reliable and intimate music venues and right across the street from your hotel (The San Jose). James McMurtry has a weekly gig here.

Head out to Contigo for brunch. Their bloodies and biscuits will set you right.
