2nd Haircut

Will has beautiful locks, but they seem to grow at a fast pace so this weekend we took him in for his 2nd haircut. I love his swoop, but when it starts getting in his eyes and mom starts considering using hair spray to get his waves (he gets that from me) to lay flat it's time for a cut. Thanks to Popo and RaRa for talking me into getting his haircut and not letting me wait till we see our favorite hair dresser Mallory.

When You Least Expect It

Last week was rough for the Trevino clan. Mark and I finally recuperated from our stomach bug that hit us in Hotlanta on Monday night, but then a day later Will came down with a nasty viral infection that lasted till late Friday night. To top it off my first tv I ever bought and the first big purchase I made after saving for months at my first job went caput. I knew someday I would have to part with this 225 lb. beast, so after bribing some friends with Magic Hat and convincing Mark it was ok to put ruts in our yard to get the tv into his car to take to the dump we went shopping for a new one. Mark is so excited to no longer have to move our old tv and I have a feeling my brother and brother in law are secretly excited that our old one went out so they can see the new one when they come for Masters week.

Will even perked up on Saturday for the big tv extravaganza, he must have a little of his Uncle Kris in him when it comes to getting electronics!

Where's the Baby

In college I had an awesome roomate from New Orleans who introduced me to Haydel's King's Cake. It was love at first sight and so my king cake love began. It blossomed during my time at the capitol as king cake's from Randazzos were frequent treats from eager lobbyist. I'm not sure if it's the sugary goodness I love or the hunt for the baby, but I love some king cake. I haven't seen to many in our neck of the woods but hopefully Freshmarket will start carrying them soon (a girl can still dream about Haydels and Randazzos, right?)

The Mardi Gras season officially begins Jan. 6th or the "Twelfth Night" aka "Epiphany." Epiphany comes from the Greek word "to show." Jesus first showed himself to the Wise Men and to the world on this day. As a symbol of this Holy Day, a tiny plastic baby is placed inside each Kings Cake. The Kings Cake is an oval shaped cake (a cross between a coffee cake and french pastry) decorated in royal colors of purple (signifying justice,) green (signifying faith) and gold (signifying power). These colors signify the jeweled crown honoring the Wise Men who visited christ on Epiphany. In the past things as coins, pecan, beans and peas were also hidden in the cake. If you are the lucky recipient of the piece of cake with the baby, you are King for the day and bound by custom to host the next Mardi Gras party and provide the cake. Mardi Gras has a movable date and may occur on any Tuesday from February 3rd to March 9th. It's always the day before Ash Wednesday, and always falls 46 days before Easter.

Atlanta 1, Trevinos 0

We got into Atlanta on Friday night late for Mark's first medical conference. We were so excited to see Atlanta we decided ahead of time to extend the conference and stay Saturday night so I could do some much needed shopping and to have a little date night out on the town. On our way in we stopped at Flip Burger (being the Richard Blais Top Chef fans that we are) and got awesome burgers and a milkshake.

Envisioned: A weekend getaway with shopping, great eating, an adult night out sans our bambino, swimming and beautiful hotel rooms.

Result: Will and I got to the mall on Saturday morning to find all those great President Weekend sales and all of the sudden the bug hit me. The result was no shopping, no date night with babysitter and a husband who later caught the bug from his lovely wife.

Not quite the trip we had in mind, but on the upside Will didn't know the difference and we now have a babysitter for future trips to Atlanta. Also, Mark got to show Will the Aquarium after his conference ended and before the bug hit him. Will loved seeing the fish and I spent all Sunday trying to convince Mark we needed a fish tank (it doesn't look like I'm going to win this one.)

T1 Update

We survived the first week of T1. We had two incident reports: 1)We fell into a cubbie reaching for a block and got a noggin on our head 2.) We got bit for having a coveted book-all normal. We are still a bit sad when mom drops us off in the morning, but 5 min. after I leave he is having the time of his life. He is a good napper now that they have transitioned him from 2 naps to one (He gets that from his mom, Cowboy Jake, RaRa and Uncle Kris.) Still a good eater although some days he gets picky not eating what he ate the day before. His teachers also say he eats in t-2 minutes so they have to keep an eye on him and cut his food small for his four teeth. (He gets that from Grandpa Doc and dad.) He loves bread and cheese and always cleans his plate and is the only kid in the room that always eats seconds. Mark swears he is picking up mine and my dad's eating habits- not sure if that is a good or bad thing. All I know is he is a happy camper and I can't wait to catch him in action on the playground (hopefully he's not the kid eating the sand.)

Sunshine

We finally got some sunshine this weekend and decided it would be a great day to put together Will's new dinner/craft/outdoor table! Assembly was easy, Will had fun with the box and now we have a table for Will to sit at with all his friends and cousins!
