Well God bless the South, because Southern wedding tradition says that if you go to the site of the wedding exactly one month before the wedding day and bury a bottle of bourbon, then it will not rain on the chosen day. The folklore further states that the bottle should be completely full and buried upside down. Tradition states that after the ceremony, it is dug up by the bride and groom then shared by them or with those in attendance. I am still a bit disappointed in my Southerness that I hadn’t even heard of it. My research was inconclusive as to where this tradition began, though some sources said Virginia, and some Tennessee. However, leave it to my 2nd parents and best friend to introduce me to the tradition! Here's to no rain on Sally & Michael's wedding!

Burying Bourbon

It Only Gets Worse
There is a runner at work who is in college. Fridays are always rough for him, along with a lot of other days of the week too. I can not judge because we've all been there in our younger days. In my younger days I swore by a greasy breakfast, a fountain diet dr. pepper, and Tylenol. I had friends who would try and exercise it out (that sounds miserable typing it) or load up on coffee. At 31 years the best advice I can give this 24 year old is to remember how you feel right now the next time you go out, because they only get worse the older you get.

But, like most 24 year olds, I don't think that has an impact so here are my real words of wisdom for the pounding headache, queasy stomach and dry mouth
Water and Advil. This goes without saying. Since alcohol does nothing for your hydration, you must drink as much water as humanly possible. The Advil will help take care of the headache, but stay on the four hour regiment.
Gatorade. Since athletes drink sports drinks to rehydrate after a workout, why shouldn’t the hangover victim do the same thing? A long night of drinking could be considered a workout in some circles. Be careful of the sugar content in some sports drinks – especially if you have a queasy stomach.
Hair of the Dog. If you can handle it, a Bloody Mary, a Mimosa, or a beer can ease the hangover symptoms for a short period of time. Beware: putting alcohol on top of alcohol amplifies the effects, so tread lightly. Ensure that you enjoy your hair of the dog with food and plan a nap shortly thereafter.
Eggs. Believe it or not, eggs are an excellent hangover cure. They may be tough to get through but eggs contain amino acids that help break down the alcohol toxins faster.
Coconut Water. Coconut water is extremely high in electrolytes, which is needed to get rid of that ‘hit by a dump truck’ feeling.
Pedialyte. It's not just for kids and it is a therapeutic hydration for dehydration by replenishing vital minerals and nutrients lost during trips to the bathroom.
Tums. These little beauties are absolutely critical during a hangover. You'll need something to offset the damage you've done to your stomach over the last 24 hours, and Tums are the answer. Don't overdo it, but this will help you keep down breakfast, brunch, or lunch...depending on when you get up.

"FORE"ward Fashion????
Growing up I always wanted to marry a golfer. There was something about that preppy attire, and lets not forget life of a golfer's wife that was enticing. Since the Masters is right around the corner, it has me thinking golf and more specifically "golf fashion." There could be several post on this as I love watching Amy Mickelson walk the course in her cute outfits, but today I focus on the mens!
Bobby Jones, a southern gentleman, was not only was a world class
record making golfer, but also he designed the National, co-founded the Masters Tournament, and wore a tie on the golf course better than anyone.
Even the caddies look good at the National.
There is the late great
golfer Payne Stewart (striking outfits, from caps to his pants...love those tweeds and knickerbockers).
Lets not forget the 1970s
Giving Lief Garrett
a run for his money, Nicklaus' locks sometimes stole the show. Plaid pants were his signature. Along with winning the most Masters tournaments in history. Wearing plaid and winning the Masters: not things that most people can get away with.
Apparently, it's not just the ladies who like their shoes too. Freddie Couples has quite the shoe collection, lately sporting his Ecco Street shoes. These must be his Christian Louboutin pair.
Winning the Masters in 1992, Freddie is a favorite on the golf course, I'm sure because of his excellent golf skills. With nicknames like Boom Boom and Mr. Skins, what's not to love?
He's controversial. And always has been, before and after the scandal. He is a risk-taker on and off the golf course, and I believe he changed the way men started dressing for golf. Tiger Woods.
Winning, winning, winning. It didn't seem he could ever be stopped. But with more wins came a change. His shirts were more fitted and sleek. Gone were the pleated trousers and loose preppy golf shirt.
The iconic Sunday Tiger Red, which no one else would pair with Masters green.
Once Tiger had
sprung, those young golfers took it to the next level. Kyle Stanley is the
Johnny Cash of golfers today, wearing all black and having a bad boy look.
Ian Poulter: an
expert at mixing the tacky with the avant garde with the fabulous, Poulter
certainly makes a statement out on the golf course. Taking risks with pink, plaid and punk, he seems to have no fear.
Let's not forget last year's Master's winner wearing all white. All white can be hard to pull off, but this bulldog did it well.
And his entourage of friends are definitely making their own fashion statement too.
Cheers to Masters 2013 and all the outfits we will see!

Little Hef
It may have been Fat Tuesday, but we were gearing up for V-Day last night at the Trevino house. Will and I assembled the trail mix valentines for his class (half of it was eaten by my 2 boys) and we are getting excited for our 2 Valentine's Day Parties tomorrow. Now off to pick up pink and red bread at Publix for his class party, who knew they made that?
