Med Stock 2012

Last weekend we headed to Lake Lure, NC for the 1st annual Med School Reunion.  What a great weekend full of great friends. It was fun seeing everyone and I'm still amazed that everyone was able to get off the same weekend with call schedules and fly/drive all the way to NC. It was fun remembering our times in Houston and realizing that we all were together for some pretty special occassions in each others lives through those four years (weddings, babies, and matching in residencies all across the US). What a special group of friends we are blessed with!
After picking up Dr. JP in Greenville, SC we decided to head to Grove Park Inn for drinks
Complete with a Memorial Day Band
Kicking off the weekend with the signature Nantahala cocktail (Bourbon, blueberries and mint).  You can tell will was very impressed with the Grove Park Inn
Thanks to gun and garden magazine we headed to the Chop Shop to pick up a few necessities for dinner. Just the aroma of the shop made my heart pump and my mouth water.
Winding through the backroads we finally arived at our weekend getaway.
Our crib: The Greystone Manor on Lake Lure, NC. There were 11 of us and 4 kids, but this place could have easily slept 10 families.
Saturday for lunch we headed to 12 Bones in Asheville. It was by far the best bbq I've had east/north of Texas (Even though there was no brisket and they didn't traditionally smoke their ribs, the food and sides were delish.)
You can take the group out of Texas, but you can't take away their love for bbq.
Since the local breweries didn't open till 3 we decided to head to a little hole in the wall that sold several of the local ales.
Scott, Jeff and Thomas in there reunion shirts that Ken made for everyone.
A local brew contest was going on in the parking lot, but unfortunately the event was sold out. Maybe next year we can enter some Trevino brew.
There was also a lot of fun in the sun!
and chillaxing...
Amy and Chad brought their dogs Lucy and Barton
The Merricks drove 15 hours from Michigan to come to the reunion and Will has yet to stop talking about them.
Of course there was a lot of tom foolery and maybe a little bit of moonshine.
Mu Epsilon Delta (MED) fraternity
Get Nasty, Go Spurs Go! While I may have been rooting for Durantula (sorry I am a rockets fan at heart), these boys were not. I had forgotten what it was like to watch a game with the three of them and enjoyed their enthusiasm.  Especially Scott's
We also got the special treat of celebrating Scott's 30th birthday! MK whipped up a homemade red velvet cake that was delicious and we watched the Spurs (Scott's favorite team!) bring home the win.
The kiddos (Will, Luke and Langely Grace)
The Girls: Amy, Amy, Kim & MK
And my 2 boys in the Bentley

nana na na hey hey goodbye

This is a pic of our couch after we found Will pulling out the stuffing tonight. We knew our chic siegfried & roy, cream-leather couch was on its last leg, but now our couch search has become more of a priority. We loved this couch (it was free, comfy and the perfect L.) Maybe not quite our style, but it served us and our guest well for many years. If anyone has any recommendations for couches please send them my way!

What I'm Loving Today

These burlap toms I got Will! Thanks Aunt Leisha and Eli for putting us on to these and thanks Picket Fences in Austin for hooking us up with them on our last trip!
I also picked up one of these too for the Fall in a 4T. Kandle Kids Wear has some cute austin designs too.
I'm so pumped that I scored this beauty off ebay and a turquoise one for my mamasita. I was about to buy one and thanks to the Aunt Angels they let me in on the secret of jcrew jewelry on ebay. Apparently the same manufacturer sells them on ebay with a different clasp for 1/8 of the price.
Southern tide channel marker shorts that have a bit of stretch. Mark was in desperate need of new shorts so these were perfect. We had a long debate on pleats or no pleats and opted for both. I said no pleats, but Mark thought pleats looked professional and could be done only on khakis.
About to start the 2nd book in the series...it's hot! You know you want to read it too!
These $8 mossimo shirts from Target in neons. They are so comfy and the perfect price.
These super cute doce vita shoes I scored for Rara in black for mother's day! They are great go to summer shoes at a pretty great price.
The bauble bar where I will hopefully get this from soon.
Lake Lure, NC where we will be chilaxing for the weekend with the medies.

Put a Swoosh On It Lala

Were back from Texas! I had a great weekend with Will's Angel Aunts celebrating Aunt Lulu's upcoming wedding. Lake McQueeny was beautiful and it was so much fun getting to catch up with the H-town and Tri-Delta girls I hadn't seen in forever. To say I had fun would be an understatement because I had a blast.
Will had a blast too and got to see cousin Elle's 1st dance recital in Austin! He had a blast with Aunt Leisha and I know is going to miss his special time in Texas.
We also got the great news that Aunt Sal & Michael got engaged in California and another one of Will's angel Aunts is set to deliver today, what great news to cap off the weekend!

When our Childs Away We Will Play

Will stayed back in Texas this week to play with Popo and Rara or as I like to call it "Ehlert Bootcamp!" Popo and Rara will of course love and spoil him, but also will help toughen him up as I know that since he is my first child I probably hover a little to much and baby him  more than I should. I know he is having a blast and until I return on Thursday for Aunt Lulu's bachelorette Mark and I have decided to make the most of our time together and do a few things we haven't gotten to do in a long time or near as often with a rambunctious two year old.
Sunday night I got back late on Mothers day and we hit up Carrabbas for wine and trout. Trout is one of the many things I miss about Texas as fishing trips always kept our freezer full. It was so nice to relax and not have to speed eat or try and entertain someone other than ourselves.

Monday we had a hankering for oysters and headed over to Rhineharts followed by our first time to the movies in years to see Hunger Games. Isn't it interesting that the introduction for regal cinemas hasn't changed in 15 years...the rollercoast ride through the candy, drinks & popcorn.
Tuesday night Mark has Journal club so I plan on doing a little of this:
and meeting him here after journal club for a nightcap.

Wednesday we will be trecking to Athens, GA after work to try Hugh Acheson's award winning Five and Ten restaurant. Mark and Jake have already been and raved about it so I'm super excited (even if it is an hour and a half away...it's worth it!)

Thursday back to Texas to see this little guy
(While we are having fun we sure do miss him terribly!)
Then onto Lake McQueeny to see Aunt Lulu and the other angels!

Michael & Amy's Wedding Weekend

Thursday after work Will and I flew in for Michael & Amy's wedding.
A quick stop at Opies on the way to get some much needed Texas BBQ.
Elle, Eli, & Kris met us in Horseshoe Bay. We sure were missing Leisha! Thank you Grandpa and Grandma Doc for letting us camp out at the lakehouse, it was the perfect place and scenery for three toddlers!

 The Bride and Groom

This was before hitting Bluebonnet Cafe and introducing Will to his first chicken fried steak.
