Circumcision....a blessing and a curse

Sorry it took so long to get back on the blog. Will got his weenie surgery around 4pm on Tues and we seized the opportunity to get 2.5 hours (it took a while due to the large size) of uninterrupted sleep which we desperately needed. They wheeled him back in and he slept for another 30 minutes and then was either feeding (and fussy) or crying/screaming (very fussy) until around 6am the next morning. Don't know if it is because of the circ or not, but my god that was a long night. Thankfully last night we were on the "feed 30 minutes, sleep 2 hour" schedule with minimal crying so we caught up with about 5 hours of sleep (if 5 hours in spurts is catching up).

He's also doing pretty good with "latching" which for those of you without kids means hooking up to the breast. I never knew that word would be said, thought about, and planned as much as we have over the last two days between ourselves, nursing, pediatricians, lactation consultants, etc. I knew he would be fine taking the breast because he is a Trevino male, but everyone seems surprised he "latches" so well at three days. Anyway, here are some more pictures including some close ups. Both mom and Will are doing great and we are going home today.

Amy using Skype to video chat with Aunt Stacey. For those who don't know, Skype allows you to basically have a conversation with video in real time over the internet. The software is free and all you need is a webcam with a microphone. That way you get live video of Will (and us too, but we know you really just care about seeing him)

Lovely flowers that really tied the room together

Something for all my buddies to make fun of. No I am not trying to breast feed, I'm trying "skin-to-skin" which is supposed to create some sort of bond and help calm babies. Will and I agree that does not sound very cool and we will refer to it as a chest bump from now on.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. My phone kept blowing up with texts while they were closing and I kept reading them off to Amy. I think it made the whole process much easier for both of us.

Last night went about as well as possible....I guess (couple of first timers here). We tried to do the whole sleep for 2 hours, eat for 20 min, sleep for 2 hours, etc. It worked well for about 2 hours. Then we had Will sleeping and not hungry when we tried to feed, with a couple of crying episodes most likely from being hungry when we wanted to sleep. We actually had a 4 hour gap in the last feed because he just wanted to sleep with mommy and not eat. Good feed this AM and now mom and baby are taking naps in preparation for the next feed. Pretty much the last 18 hours have been sleep and feeds and I imagine that is what the next couple of weeks/months entail.

Amy was up walking around this morning, not having too much pain and is now off the morphine as she didn't really need it last night. Seems like a waste of some good morphine, but now we get Percocet. Yeah! Love you all and I'll keep snapping photos so keep checking back.

William Ashley arrives!

Well, after 39 weeks and 5 days, Little William Ashely Trevino has arrived. All 8 pounds 7 oz and 20.5 in of him. We tried inducing for about 20 hours and finally figured out that Will was probably a little too big for Amy. He wasn't moving down the birth canal so she wasn't progressing very much and we decided to head to the OR for a C section. Amy went through it like a champ and Will came out crying and a quick glance and it was easy to see that we had a little boy (just like both grandpas thought). Both mom and baby are doing great. Now for the pictures. It has been a long and great day and we are going to try and get a little rest. Stay tuned for more pictures

Still No Baby T, but....

Mark has found a use for the baby bottle dryer. Yes, a dryer for his Christmas beer bottles. As you can see he is still drinking for three:) I know our life is about to change, but I'm not sure if I'll get the baby bottle dryer back-I may just have to go out and get another one.

Since we are getting closer to Baby T making a debut I wanted to make sure that I got a couple of pics of the final days. I've been lucky to carry all out in the front which has amazed me and always suprises peeps when I turn around and they see my stomach. After seeing this pic too I guess I understand why when I turn around everyone ask if I'm carrying twins.

Mark and I in front of the Christmas Tree at Augusta Country ClubWork Christmas parties-oddly, Mark and I had never been to one before last night (Mark was in school, I worked for the state and Fulbright only had a party for attorneys) We were super pumped to go to my party at Augusta Country Club (not to be confused with Augusta National) and his resident party at the Lawson's house. Both were a lot of fun and we both enjoyed getting to meet each others co-workers.

The Next David

Little things always remind me of Texas, the other night it was Mark cooking his tomatillo enchiladas for a Christmas dinner party we went to this week. Seeing Mark cooking on our stool reminded me of Mr. David and all the good food he makes in B-town for events and fun. We miss his food so much!

Mr. David would have been proud of Mark's enchiladas, they were a huge hit. Mark is currently working on a team of 6 (and all 6 of the team members have very different backgrounds) so his attending asked everyone to bring a dish that represented their culture. Dr. Salazar's house was neat (they had 6 christmas trees all with different themes) and the food was great (cabbage salad, Indian rice, figs with carmel from Venezuela, fried chicken and a fritata from Spain.) It was a fun night and I always enjoy learning more about people and their culture-and now we have some great new recipes to try-especially George Washington's egg nog.

Wohoo, for those who don't know I've been super busy with the new job. Little did I know when they hired me that I would be in charge of designing a logo, announcing a new name change, designing a new website and 2 open house receptions. I was a bit worried I wouldn't get everything done before Baby T arrived but luckily most of my projects have come together and are done. I'm so blessed

10 years a go I left the small town of Brenham and headed to Austin for college. One of the best thing that happened was I became a phi phi angel and formed some of the most amazing friendships. My friends Georgia, Lauren, and Lindsey surprised me and came out to visit this weekend. It was so nice since Mark had to work and it was great to see them since they are the top three reasons I miss Houston! I love you Peaches, Peanut and LT!

Nina (Georgia and Mike's cute little girl), came to visit with Georgia, Lauren and Lindsey. She was so much fun and we enjoyed playing with her so much!

Another pic of Nina, she was born right before we moved to Augusta so I've been following her on her blog and hadn't seen her since August. She was so much fun and I can't wait for her to meet baby T. If baby T is a boy, I'll definitely be trying to fix the two of them up!

Mark was on call on Friday night so it was nice to come home to see the girls and just relax. Sunday we got to all go to brunch at Crums. We were so sad when they left Sunday afternoon and I think Mark summed it up best when he said that we are so lucky to have such great friends, I love those girls-I couldn't agree more!

Sooner than Later

Last Sunday our best friends, Emily & Warren Lee, were surprised and had their beautiful baby girl enter their lives, Margaret Ruth Lee 6lbs. 14oz. Margaret was suppose to come on December 10th, but ended up making her debut on November 29th. We can't wait to meet Maggie in person! My friend Virginia and her little girl Alice were due on December 18th and have since been moved up to December 11th. At our appointment on Thursday we were told that Baby T will be here sooner than later and definitely before Christmas (We were due on the 30th). We figured we should get prepared, so car seat bases are in the car, now to packing that oh so important bag!

Cookie Swap

Today was my first office holiday cookie swap. Everyone who wanted to participate had to make 4 dozen cookies and we gathered at Woodrow Wilson's boyhood home for a wonderful lunch. The swap of the cookies was just going around and getting two or three of everyone's cookies. I came home with quite an assortment that Mark has already dived into. How much fun we had and what a great idea, plus now I have some great cookie recipes and Mark has sweet treats (I hadn't bought any in since the diabetes so I'm sure he is in for a sugar rush.)

Could Baby T be a boy?

It looks like we have a high maintenance kiddo on our hands. I just found out I have PUPPP which apparently less than 1% of people get. PUPPP is a rash that begins begins in the striae of the abdomen. The rash itself consists of small, red wheals that grow together to form larger wheals on the abdomen. The rash can spread all over and is very itchy! PUPPP is harmless to mother and baby and lasts an average of 6 weeks and resolves spontaneously 1 to 2 weeks after delivery. The cause of PUPPP is unknown. A study has shown that male fetal DNA can be found in skin biopsies of the rash. Since 70% of women with PUPPP give birth to boys, a new hypothesis is that male fetal DNA acts as a skin irritant.
