Lee Cook Walk Of Champions

There is a special project being constructed at the Brenham Cubs Stadium that is very special to Mark, Will and me. In honor of Lee Cook, The Walk of Champions is being constructed. The walkway will take the players from the locker room to the field. What a fitting name and a great way to honor Mr. Lee and his love for football and Brenham Cubs sports. Funding is by private donations and can be mailed to the Lee Cook Memorial Fund at 2211 South Day #330, Brenham, TX 77833.

What a tough week last week, both my boys were sick! Will got pink eye and an ear infection and Mark came down with 102 fever. Plus, since Will got an ear infection we weren't able to get back to Texas for Uncle Kris b-day or meet up with Aunt Em and Uncle Warren in Savannah. However, this week should be much better...Will turns the big 6 months, Nana & Tony are coming in to visit, Mark no longer has overnight call and we get a holiday-can't wait.

Playing Hookey and Saying Goodbye

So it appears that Will had an eye infection over the weekend that then turned into an ear infection as well. Started the eye drops on Monday, and then he had a fever at daycare Tues and sure enough had an ear infection as well. (Doc predicted it but it wasn't there on Monday) Got him on some Augmentin and no more fever. This is where the "can't go back to daycare until 24hrs after fever" thing comes into play. Amy had some important meetings and I had call so I was willing to take the day off (said with a wink). I feel kind of bad, the rest of my team is on call and I am playing with a happy baby during what is essentially another day off. I don't feel too bad though since I got called in for back-up call last month.

Anyway, it is that time of year again where some people who I have become close to through medicine have to move on to pursue some part of their career. We served time on red medicine together during pneumonia season, bitched and moaned when they suspended our team caps or gave us patients on our post call days, and had liver rounds at least twice a month. We formed a close bond that you can only get from going through something difficult together and coming out the other end smelling like roses. I'll miss those guys, but I'm thankful to have good friends for life.

We love KPMG

We love KPMG, not just because someone special there helps us with our taxes and showers us with love (Aunt Stacey) but because they also do training in Atlanta. This means that Aunt Stacey will be out here soon to see us again. It also meant that we got to see Aunt Cat on Monday night (she works for KPMG too.) When we heard Cat would be training in Atlanta we figured it was to close to not see her, so we drove to Hotlanta on Monday night to meet her for dinner. We also had some celebrating to do too as she got engaged last Saturday to Ryan-who we simply adore! If you remember my hamburger post from last year, I had planned on us going to the Vortex to try the infamous burgers that were shown on the food network. Unfortunately, Georgia has restaurants where you can smoke in them 24 hours-therefor no one under the age of 18 is allowed on their premises (not even the patio), so that ruled that out. We ended up at 5Seasons Brewery and had a great time catching up and hearing Cat's amazing proposal story (Ryan you did good!) We can't wait till the wedding on June 18th and are looking forward to many more KPMG training sessions so we can see our fam and friends.

A Little Something

Will and I felt bad that Mark had to work on Father's Day so we decided to plan a few surprises to make his day extra special. Luckily, Mark's tomatoes just ripened so we picked them for a nice surprise (every time we get a tomato I fry them-I think he will be really excited to see these.) Next, we went to Home Depot to find something Mark would like...we came out with a power-stroke (it cuts bushes and trees or something like that.) Then we made some home made star wars cookies. I just found these cookie cutters at William Sonoma and they were a huge hit!

Mark's 1st Fathers Day

Since Mark was on call on Sunday we decided to celebrate Fathers Day on Saturday. We had such a great day and it's always a treat when I get to have both the boys with me!

Ophthalmology Here We Come

Mark officially finishes his intern year in 11 days! Friday night Will and I went to Mark's graduation which was really special. It was a lot of fun and sad to say goodbye to a lot of our friends who will be doing their residency out of state.

Weekend Update

What a great weekend! Mark was on call on Friday so I picked up Will from daycare for datenight. Will got all gussied up in his tie for our date.

Surprise! Mark arranged our first babysitter so we could have a night out on the town on Saturday (what a sweet hubby.) We went to eat in Aiken and Ms. Verle from daycare watched Will. What a great treat and much needed outing! I don't think we will wait another 5+ months for our next night out! Sunday the three of us got some much needed work done,Mark cut back the azaleas, Will and I moved all his 9 and 12 month clothes to the closet and I tried to get some much needed housework done. We capped off the day by watching the world cup game and the horns.

Happy Anniversary Marcus. Even though you always don't close the kitchen cabinets and you love bbq, beer and the yard as much as you love Will and I, I couldn't ask for a more thoughtful, loving and caring husband. Did I mention how cute you are too? How did I get so lucky? I love you.

One of our closest friends from med school, Scott, stopped by on Sunday night to visit and stay with us on his way to North Carolina. Scott was in Mark's med school class and took an extra year to work for the CDC in Atlanta. Scott just graduated and will be starting his residency at Duke in July, specializing in med peds. We are so excited for him and can't wait to come visit him, Chad and Amy in Durham this Fall! Scott also gave Will all of his old Star Wars toys. Mark, I mean Will, was super excited. What a great weekend...my best friends Sally and Candice came to visit us! Sal drove in from DC and Candice flew into Augusta to meet us after her last day of school. They are continuing the roadtrip back to Texas in Sal's car and making some fun stops along the way to kickoff the summer. With Mark being on the wards this month I was in desperate need of some girl time and I had so much fun with them! I loved reminiscing all the fun stories and memories growing up. There is nothing like your childhood friends, they really do know you best! With Aunt Candice and Aunt Sal's help we ventured out to the movies, had a night of wine and tapas, and made a much needed trip to Target to pick us some necessities. We sure do miss them already and there really is nothing more special than watching your best friends play and love your children as much as you do!
